Wild Safari

A safari on live safari webcams happens at the waterholes: the floodlit waterholes of Namibia and Botswana, the private reserves of South Africa's lowveld, the Kalahari, and the conservancies and savannahs of Kenya and Tanzania, where elephant, giraffe, zebra and the predators that follow them come to drink. The dry season, May to October in the south and roughly July to October in Kenya, is when it works: the rains stop, the bush thins, and every animal for miles has to walk to the same water. The hours matter as much as the months. Dawn and the last two hours before dark bring the herds; the floodlights carry on through the night, when lions, hyena and the shy species come. Southern Africa runs on UTC+2 and Kenya on UTC+3, so a European lunchtime is an African afternoon, and the evening drink falls around 15:30 UTC.
