Ulusaba
A second Sabi Sand angle: rocky koppie country where leopards do well.
About this view
Ulusaba sits on higher, rockier ground in the western Sabi Sand — the name is Shangaan for place of little fear, after the koppie the lodge is built on. The broken granite country here is different from the flatter reserve to the east, and it suits leopards, which use rock as cover and vantage point.
The camera covers the waterhole and the bush around it. Because the Sabi Sand has no fence with Kruger, everything that lives in the greater park can walk through this frame: elephant, buffalo, rhino, giraffe and, at night, the predators the reserve is known for.
South Africa is UTC+2, an hour ahead of central Europe in winter and level with it in summer. The May-to-September dry season is when animals commit to water and the viewing is most consistent.
