Mara River Crossing

The Great Migration's most dramatic stage, wildebeest braving crocodile waters on a live webcam.

About this view

The main crossing point on the Mara River, the exact stage where the Great Migration's most dramatic scenes play out. From July to October, wildebeest and zebra mass on the banks in their thousands, hesitate, and then commit to the crocodile water all at once.

Crossings are unpredictable by nature: herds can stack up for hours before a single animal triggers the plunge. Between events, the river runs its own show: hippos, giant crocs sunning, elephants crossing at their leisure.

Kenya time is UTC+3; crossings favour mid-morning to afternoon in season. Out of season the live webcam becomes a superb river-life feed. When the herds are massing, leave this view open: you want to be watching when the first one jumps.
