Porini Rhino Camp, Ol Pejeta
The Laikipia conservancy that guards the last two northern white rhinos on earth.
About this view
Ol Pejeta covers more than 360 square kilometres of the Laikipia plateau and is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also where the last two northern white rhinos alive — Najin and Fatu, both female — live under armed guard in their own enclosure, which makes the subspecies functionally extinct.
This camera watches over the conservancy from Porini Rhino Camp, an eight-tent camp in a valley on a seasonal river. Beyond the rhinos, Ol Pejeta holds the rest of the Big Five and runs a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, and the plains here sit against the backdrop of Mount Kenya.
Kenya is UTC+3, and sits on the equator — sunrise and sunset land near 6am and 6pm all year. Those two windows are when the animals move. The drier months, January to March and July to October, bring the best game viewing.
