Brooks Falls Brown Bears
Brown bears catching salmon mid-air at Brooks Falls, the world's most famous wildlife live webcam.
About this view
The most famous wildlife camera on the internet, for good reason: at Brooks Falls, brown bears stand in the river and catch leaping sockeye salmon out of mid-air. Up to a few dozen bears may work the falls at once in peak season, each with a known name, number and fishing style.
July is the classic falls spectacle, when the salmon run peaks and the big males claim the prime lip positions. September brings Fat Bear Week, the beloved bracket where viewers vote for the bear that has bulked best for hibernation (multi-time champion: 480 Otis, a legend of patient fishing).
Alaska runs on UTCβ9, and bears fish around the clock in the endless northern daylight, but local morning and evening usually offer the busiest falls. In winter the cams show the frozen river and the memory of bears.
