Canmore Main Street, Rundle View
Mount Rundle closes the west end of Canmore's Main Street, on a live webcam from above the shopfronts.
About this view
From above the entrance of the Gaucho Brazilian Barbecue, this live cam looks west along the downtown blocks of Canmore to the wall that ends them. That wall is Mount Rundle, less a peak than a small range: a ridge of some 12 kilometres and seven summits running from here to Banff, just under 3,000 metres at its highest. The map calls the street 8th Street. Everyone who walks it says Main Street.
From mid May to mid October the town closes these blocks to cars, as it has every summer since 2020, and the roadway fills with patios, bicycles and people carrying coffee between the cafés, gear shops and galleries. The rest of the year the traffic comes back, with ski racks on the roofs from November.
Canmore keeps Mountain Time, UTC−7, UTC−6 in summer. The view faces west, so the morning sun lights the mountain's face and the evening leaves the ridge in silhouette against the sunset. Snow returns to the summits weeks before it reaches the street, and lingers up there long after the valley has turned green.
