Hellgate Osprey Nest
An osprey nest above Montana's Clark Fork River, a live webcam watched with a university research team.
About this view
A nest cam on a platform above the Clark Fork River at Missoula, run with the University of Montana's osprey researchers. Ospreys live on fish almost exclusively, and they are built for it: reversible outer toes and spiny scales on the soles let them carry a slippery trout head-first, like a torpedo.
The pair returns to this nest each spring to rebuild, incubate and raise chicks, and the camera keeps rolling through all of it: food deliveries, sibling squabbles, and the long practice flights before the young finally leave.
Timing is everything here (UTC−7, −6 in summer). The birds arrive around April and are gone by September, so spring and summer carry the entire season; through the Montana winter the platform stands empty against the snow.
