The Greenville Zoo keeps Masai giraffes, the largest giraffe subspecies, and the one with ragged, oak-leaf-shaped spots rather than clean polygons. This live webcam watches their paddock at close range, which is the whole appeal: a mature bull can stand around 19 feet, so the animals fill the frame.
The zoo has a real history with this species. It streamed a giraffe birth live and drew more than a million viewers, and its calves have gone on to other collections as part of the coordinated breeding programme for a subspecies that has declined sharply in the wild.
Giraffes are diurnal, so daylight in South Carolina, Eastern time, UTC−5, is when there is something to see. Mornings tend to be the most active, with browsing and the occasional slow-motion sparring match between males.
