Critter Cove Wildlife Cam

A woodland feeding station in North Carolina's Piedmont: white-tailed deer, turkeys and the night shift.

About this view

A clearing at the edge of the woods on private land in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad — the Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point country between the coastal plain and the Blue Ridge. The owners keep a feeding station here they call Critter Cove, and this 24/7 live webcam watches it. North Carolina holds around a million white-tailed deer, and a fair few of them know this spot.

Deer are the regulars, singly or in small groups, ears swivelling at everything. Between them come wild turkeys strutting through, squirrels and groundhogs, and after dark, on the infrared, the night shift: raccoons, opossums, a fox or a coyote passing along the tree line. Some hours nothing shows, and the owners say as much — the wood is the view then.

The Piedmont keeps Eastern Time, UTC−5 (UTC−4 in summer). Deer are crepuscular, so the first hour of light and the last are the busiest; the rut in November brings the bucks out with their antlers up, and late May to June is fawn season, spots and all.
