A white stork nest built on the brine tower of Bad Salzungen's graduation works, a salt-cure spa in southern Thuringia. The live webcam sits level with the nest, so the birds come with the whole town behind them: red roofs, the spa park, and the church tower on the ridge.
White storks winter in Africa and return to the same nest year after year. The platform went up in 1998, and has been rebuilt since to carry the weight a full nest reaches. Between visits the view simply works as a town cam: traffic, the park paths, and the roofs going gold at dusk.
Germany runs on Central European Time, UTC+1 and UTC+2 in summer. The storks are here from roughly March to the end of August: eggs in April, chicks on their feet by June, fledging in July. Then the family goes south, and the nest waits out the winter empty.
