Sibling Tigers, Turpentine Creek

A live webcam on three sibling tigers at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, in the Arkansas Ozarks.

About this view

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge gives lifetime sanctuary to captive wild animals, on 459 acres in the Ozark Mountains near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and this live cam watches three of its tigers, siblings who share a habitat. What began as one family's mission in 1992 has grown into a sanctuary that campaigns to end the exotic cat trade.

Tigers raised in captivity cannot be released into the wild, so the refuge's work is to give them room, enrichment and care for the rest of their lives. Tigers are the largest of the big cats, and they spend much of the day resting; the moments worth waiting for are the stretch, the patrol of the habitat and the times when all three are awake at once.

Eureka Springs keeps Central Time, UTC−6, UTC−5 in summer, so an Arkansas morning is a European afternoon. The refuge is a short drive from the town, a Victorian spa resort of steep streets built over its springs.
