Polar Bear Passage is the Kansas City Zoo's polar bear habitat, and this live cam is trained on it: a 140,000-gallon pool, about 530,000 litres, chilled to 65°F for swimming and diving, a sand pit for digging and napping, and a grassy yard for rolling around with toys. The zoo covers 202 acres of Swope Park and has been open since 1909.
The pool is where the action is. The bear here is often in the water, splashing and tearing up favourite toys, and polar bears are built for it: strong swimmers insulated by thick fat and dense fur, and the largest land carnivores alive.
