Kansas City
The City of Fountains on a live webcam: more than 200 of them, plus jazz and eighteen-hour barbecue.
About this view
Kansas City has more than 200 fountains, which is more than any city on earth except Rome, a comparison the City of Fountains Foundation has leaned on since it was set up in 1973. This live webcam looks across the downtown they punctuate.
The city's other two exports are audible and edible. Jazz took its Kansas City form in the 1920s and 30s around 18th and Vine, the district that now holds both the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The barbecue is its own school: slow-smoked for as long as eighteen hours, usually over hickory, and argued about endlessly.
Central time, UTC−6. Evenings light the skyline; the Country Club Plaza, fourteen blocks of architecture modelled on Seville, is famous for switching on its Christmas lights from Thanksgiving night.
