About this view
In the Qing era this was the trading port of Taipei; today Dadaocheng Wharf on the Tamsui River is the city's favourite place to end a day, watched here on a live camera. The row of shipping containers along the quay is an open-air food and bar market, the cycle path runs along the embankment, and the river opens west toward the sunset.
Weekday evenings bring the after-work crowd to the container bars, weekends fill the quay from noon, and ferries on the Blue Highway route pull in and out below. The big event is summer: the Dadaocheng festival fires its fireworks from the wharf on several nights from mid-July, with the finale on Qixi, the Chinese Valentine's Day.
