Roswell
The self-declared UFO Capital of the World, going about its ordinary day.
About this view
In July 1947 a rancher named W.W. Brazel found scattered debris on his land near Corona, about 75 miles northwest of here. The Roswell Army Air Field issued a press release announcing the recovery of a flying disc, retracted it inside 24 hours, and called it a weather balloon instead. The town has never let it go.
Roswell now brands itself the UFO Capital of the World, and the International UFO Museum — founded in 1991 by the officer who wrote that original press release, Walter Haut, with local mortician Glenn Dennis — anchors a main street of alien-themed everything, streetlamps included.
This live stream mostly shows an ordinary New Mexico town at 3,600 feet, which is its own quiet joke. Mountain time, UTC−7. Early July is the week to watch, when the UFO Festival fills the streets.
