Ruidoso
A pine-forest mountain village at 6,900 feet, a live webcam under the shoulder of Sierra Blanca.
About this view
Ruidoso sits at 6,920 feet in the Sierra Blanca range of southern New Mexico, high enough that ponderosa pine replaces desert entirely. It takes its name from the Rio Ruidoso, Spanish for noisy river, the stream that runs through the village.
Sierra Blanca Peak rises to 11,981 feet above it and holds snow long into spring. The village is a mountain resort in both seasons: Ski Apache above it in winter, and Ruidoso Downs racetrack below, which each Labor Day weekend runs the All-American Futurity, the richest Quarter Horse race in the United States.
Mountain time, UTC−7. Summer afternoons bring the monsoon build-up over the peaks, which is the most dramatic thing this live webcam sees; winter mornings bring the snow line down into the trees.
