Union Pacific at New Braunfels, Texas

Freight trains on Union Pacific's Austin line through New Braunfels, Texas, seen on a live webcam.

About this view

This live cam faces east along Union Pacific's Austin Subdivision at milepost 227.43, in New Braunfels, the city between San Antonio and Austin on the Interstate 35 corridor of central Texas. It has been on the air since August 2024.

The line carries a steady procession of freight between Mexico, San Antonio and the north, so the view is mostly long trains: stacks of containers, tank cars, rock trains from the quarries of the Hill Country, and the locomotives that haul them. New Braunfels itself was founded in 1845 by German settlers led by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, and its German heritage still shows in its churches, its bakeries and Wurstfest, the sausage festival held every November.

New Braunfels keeps Central Time, UTC−6, UTC−5 in summer. Summers are long and hot, when the city's spring-fed rivers, the Comal and the Guadalupe, fill with people floating slowly downstream on inner tubes.
