Amsterdam Centraal Station
Trams below and a live webcam facing the front of Amsterdam Centraal across the Open Havenfront basin.
About this view
Amsterdam Centraal is the city's largest railway station and, with some 192,000 passengers a day, the second busiest in the Netherlands after Utrecht Centraal. This live cam looks at its long red-brick front from across the Open Havenfront, the basin at the head of the Damrak, with trams running along the bottom of the picture.
Trams come and go below the camera all day, boats lie moored in the basin, and the pavements carry a steady stream of travellers between the platforms and the old centre. The station is a Rijksmonument, the most visited national monument in the country, and of its two towers one carries a clock and the other a dial that shows the direction of the wind.
Amsterdam keeps Central European Time, UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. The square in front is busiest in the morning and evening rush and on weekend afternoons, and the facade is lit after dark. The station opened in 1889, designed by Pierre Cuypers, the architect of the Rijksmuseum.
