About this view
This live cam looks across the Grote Markt of Groningen from a building on the square, with the Martinitoren rising at the right of the picture: the tower has stood since 1482, holds a carillon of more than 60 bells, and is the landmark the whole city steers by. The buildings opposite are the postwar side of the square, rebuilt after the fighting of April 1945 destroyed it.
The square is the city's front room. Cyclists cut across it all day, the market takes it several days a week, and the terraces along the edge fill on any afternoon the sun is out; the sunsets behind the tower are the reason the picture is worth a look at the end of the day.
