About this view
This live cam looks south down the Milwaukee River from a rooftop on the north edge of downtown, with the bridges in the foreground and the towers beyond: the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts on the near bank, the 28-storey Milwaukee Center, and City Hall's clock tower, finished in 1895 and for a few years the tallest habitable building in the United States.
The river is a working street in summer, with kayaks, pontoon boats and the tour boats passing under the bridges, and the RiverWalk along both banks fills with office workers at lunch and with drinkers in the evening. The bridges lift for sailboats, and in a hard winter the river freezes between them.
Milwaukee keeps Central Time, UTC−6, UTC−5 in summer. The best light is late afternoon, when the sun is on the towers, and the city glows from the river after dark; Summerfest on the lakefront in late June and early July brings the busiest fortnight of the year.
