About this view
A live stream that never settles: FOX 5, New York's local television station, cycles through its own cameras around the city — Times Square, the skyline with the World Trade Center, Midtown, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and the traffic on the bridges, highways and tunnels between them. Each view holds for a while, then the next takes over.
It is the closest thing to a channel-surf of the city. One minute the billboards and the crowd, the next a still harbour with Liberty on her island, then a stretch of the FDR at rush hour. Regulars learn the rotation and wait for a favourite; the chat argues about which view wins.
Rush hours show the bridges and highways at their most alive, roughly 7–9 am and 5–7 pm (UTC−5, −4 in summer); after dark the skyline views take over, and a snowfall turns the whole rotation into a postcard set.
