Terminal Tower

Cleveland's 1930 landmark on Public Square on a live webcam, lit a different colour most nights.

About this view

Terminal Tower has stood over Public Square since 1930, and for 34 years it was the tallest building in North America outside New York City, a record it held until 1964. Its 52 storeys rise straight out of a railway station: the Cleveland Union Terminal runs beneath it, now the Tower City complex.

The observation deck on the 42nd floor, 668 feet up, looks 360 degrees over the city and out across Lake Erie. From outside, the tower's crown is the thing to watch: it is floodlit most nights, and the colours change for holidays, causes and whichever Cleveland team is playing.

The live cam runs around the clock on Eastern time, UTC−5. Dusk is the moment, when the lighting comes on against the last of the daylight. Lake-effect snow squalls in winter can swallow the top of the building outright.
