About this view
Some 500 kilometres south of Santiago, on the river of the same name, Concepción is the capital of the Biobío region and the second urban area of Chile, and this live webcam looks over its centre. The city was founded in 1550, flattened by earthquakes more than once and rebuilt each time, and today it is above all a university town, with the third oldest university in the country.
The streets around the Plaza de la Independencia carry the traffic of a city of a million people: buses and colectivos, students between classes, the market crowds and the evening rush. The weather comes in off the Pacific, and the winter rain here is the real thing.
