Biot Village

Biot, the glassmaking village above Antibes, seen from its church tower on a live webcam: roofs, hills, sea.

About this view

From the bell tower of the church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, this live camera looks out over Biot, a fortified hill village a few kilometres inland from Antibes on the Côte d'Azur. Below are the tiled roofs and narrow lanes of the old village, and beyond them the hills of the Alpes-Maritimes and, on a clear day, the Mediterranean.

Biot is the glassmaking village of the Riviera: the Verrerie de Biot, founded in 1956, invented the bubble glass sold in every shop on the square, and the Musée national Fernand Léger opened here in 1960 as the first modern art museum on the coast. The lanes fill with visitors from late morning, the café terraces on the square from noon, and the bells mark the hours over it all.

Biot keeps Central European Time, UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. The light on the roofs is best in the first hours of the morning and again before sunset, around 19:00 UTC in June; the village empties in the heat of an August afternoon and fills for the evening. Some 10,000 people live in the commune, and visitors search webcam Biot.
