Plages du Midi

Cannes without the red carpet: free public sand, a cycle path and the Estérel closing the bay.

About this view

This is where Cannes actually swims. The camera looks west along the Plages du Midi, the long run of free public beach past the old port, toward the red rock of the Estérel, which tops out just over 600 metres.

The Croisette gets the red carpet; the Midi gets the cycle path, the morning runners and the pétanque. Rock groynes cut the swell into calm pockets where families wade, and traffic slides past behind the white balustrade.

Cannes runs on Central European Time, UTC+1 and UTC+2 in summer. This live cam faces west, so sunset is the appointment. In May the film festival takes over the far side of town and the Midi carries on exactly as it is.
