St. Peter's Basilica View
Over the rooftops of Rome on a live webcam, Michelangelo's dome from morning bells to golden hour.
About this view
Michelangelo's dome, il Cupolone, Rome's affectionate nickname, rises over the rooftops of the Prati district in this steady view toward the Vatican. At 136 metres it remains the tallest dome in the world, four and a half centuries after its design.
The live webcam catches the basilica's presence across the Roman skyline of umbrella pines and terracotta. On major liturgical events, the surrounding streets fill visibly; on papal election days, all eyes turn to a chimney not far from this frame.
Roman light is the co-star: golden hour gilds the dome (roughly 6–8 pm in summer), and after dark the floodlit cupola floats above the city. Sunday mornings carry church bells across the whole quarter.
