About this view
For 38 years after 1964 the DN-skrapan, the newspaper tower on Kungsholmen, was the tallest building in Sweden, and this live webcam looks east from its top over Riddarfjärden, the bay of Lake Mälaren at the heart of Stockholm. The Västerbron bridge arches across the foreground, the quays of Norr Mälarstrand run along the left, and the spires of Riddarholmen and the old town close the view.
Ferries and pleasure boats cross the bay all day in summer, the city hall tower catches the low sun, and after dark the bridges and quays are strung with light. In a hard winter the bay freezes and the skaters come out; in June the sky never fully darkens.
Stockholm keeps Central European Time, UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. The light is the thing to plan around: sunset around 14:00 UTC in December and after 20:00 UTC in June, with a long blue hour at either end. Swedes call the water Riddarfjärden and the tower DN-skrapan.
