Helsinki West Harbour
Baltic ferries the size of buildings on a live webcam, docking and leaving for Tallinn and Stockholm.
About this view
Helsinki's West Harbour is one of the busiest passenger ports in the world: the giant white ferries to Tallinn leave near-hourly, moving millions across the Gulf of Finland each year. This Port of Helsinki camera watches them come and go.
The ships are the size of hotels and dock with a watchmaker's precision, hull-to-quay in metres. In hard winters the gulf freezes and the ferries carve through pack ice like an icebreaker ballet; the low Baltic light does the rest.
Departure waves run through Finnish mornings and late afternoons. In June the light lingers past 11 pm; in January the same view is blue dusk by 3 pm: the live webcam doubles as a lesson in Nordic seasons.
