This webcam watches Port d'Armor, unusual on this coast because it floats: the first deep-water harbour in northern Brittany, opened in 1990, which boats can enter at any state of the tide where most local ports dry out twice a day. Beyond it lies the scallop bed of the bay of Saint-Brieuc, 150,000 hectares of it.
The fleet is the reason to watch. Scallop dredging is tightly rationed — a season from October to April, two sorties a week, under an hour of dredging each — so the harbour swings between crowded and empty. Around 5,300 tonnes came through the local market last season.
Boats move around the season's early openings; summer belongs to the thousand-odd berths of the marina (UTC+1, +2 in summer). At a tidal coefficient of 90 the sea here rises and falls more than nine metres, and the foreshore empties dramatically.
