About this view
Some 620 berths at the mouth of the Rio Arade: the Marina de Portimão is one of the biggest marinas on the Algarve, and this live cam looks over its northern basin, with the pontoons in the foreground and the river mouth beyond. Praia da Rocha and its cliffs are a short walk to the south.
Yachts come and go through the day, sailing boats leave for the Atlantic on the morning breeze, and the tour boats to the Benagil caves fill up from the quay from about 09:00. Sardine boats still work out of the fishing harbour upriver, and in August the sardine festival lights the waterfront for a week of grilled fish and music.
Portimão keeps Western European Time, UTC+0, UTC+1 in summer. The marina is busiest from June to September, when the boats are out by mid morning and back before a sunset that falls past 19:30 UTC in June; in winter the basin is full and quiet, and the town's motor racing circuit, the Autódromo, draws its own crowds a few kilometres inland.
