Golden sand, ochre cliffs and a turquoise Atlantic: the beach of Albufeira, seen from the Hotel Sol e Mar on the seafront of the old town, is the picture the Algarve puts on its postcards. The live cam looks over the sand from the hotel, with the whitewashed old town stacked on the slope above and the cliffs closing the bay on either side.
Parasols go up from mid morning and the sand is full by early afternoon in summer; paddle boards and pedalos work the calm water inside the bay, and the fishing boats that gave the neighbouring Praia dos Pescadores its name are still drawn up on the sand. By evening the crowd drifts up the escalator to the old town square and its bars, and the beach empties as the lights come on along the promenade.
