Fátima, Chapel of the Apparitions

The Chapel of the Apparitions at the Sanctuary of Fátima, where pilgrims pray day and night, on a live webcam.

About this view

On 13 May 1917 three shepherd children reported seeing the Virgin Mary above a holm oak in the Cova da Iria, and the Capelinha das Aparições stands on that spot today, the heart of the Sanctuary of Fátima. The sanctuary's own live cam is trained on the chapel and the statue of Our Lady of Fátima inside it.

The chapel is never empty. Pilgrims kneel on the marble, some cross the esplanade on their knees along the penitential path, candles burn in the pyres beside the chapel, and Mass and the rosary are said here every day of the year. On the 12th of each month from May to October the candlelight procession fills the square after dark, and on the 13th the monthly pilgrimages draw tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands in May and October.

Fátima keeps Western European Time, UTC+0, UTC+1 in summer. The rosary at the Capelinha is prayed in the evening, and the biggest gatherings fall on 13 May and 13 October, the dates of the first and last apparitions. Some six million people visit the shrine each year.
