About this view
This live cam looks over the harbour of Vineyard Haven, the working port of Martha's Vineyard, where the Steamship Authority ferries from Woods Hole tie up and most of the island's visitors first set foot. In the foreground are the moorings and the Black Dog Wharf, from which the schooners Shenandoah and Alabama sail in summer.
The ferries come and go through the day, in summer more than a dozen sailings each way, and the harbour between them is sailboats, launches and the occasional yacht too large for the moorings. Jaws was filmed on this island in 1974, and the harbour has not changed so much that a viewer of the film will not recognise it.
Vineyard Haven keeps Eastern Time, UTC−5, UTC−4 in summer. The first ferry lands soon after 07:00 and the last leaves in the evening; the harbour is fullest from June to September, and in a winter storm the ferries stop and the water goes grey and empty.
