Wildlife in the Forest

A Danish forest floor by day and badgers by night, a live webcam in a photographer's own wood.

About this view

A wildlife photographer set this live webcam up in 2021 in a patch of North Jutland forest, beside a stream and under an old tree that animals already used. A small amount of food is put out, deliberately little, enough to bring animals past but not enough for them to depend on it.

By day it is birds: robins, nuthatches, great spotted woodpeckers, jays and tits working the same few branches, with roe deer and hares passing through. After dark the shift changes completely, and badgers, foxes and pine martens come to the same spot. The night footage is the reason regulars keep it open.

Denmark runs on UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. Winter is the most productive season, when food is scarce and traffic past the camera is constant; the badgers are most reliable in the hours after dusk.
