Dam Square, Amsterdam

Trams, bikes and street performers on Amsterdam's central square, a pan-and-zoom live webcam in ultra-HD.

About this view

Dam Square is Amsterdam's front room, the site of the original dam on the Amstel that named the city, now flanked by the Royal Palace and the National Monument. This ultra-HD camera pans and zooms across the square's daily churn.

It is a masterclass in Dutch traffic choreography: trams sliding through crowds, bicycles by the hundred, street performers claiming their pitches, and pigeons executing manoeuvres. King's Day (April 27th) turns the entire frame orange.

The live cam's pans reward long watching: one minute the palace facade, the next a zoom on a living statue's audience. Dutch evenings bring the square's lamps and tram headlights out to play.
