SnowWorld Landgraaf, Funpark

Boxes, rails and kickers in the funpark of SnowWorld Landgraaf, on a live webcam on a former mine heap.

About this view

SnowWorld Landgraaf is built into the side of the Wilhelminaberg, a hill made of spoil from the Wilhelmina state coal mine in South Limburg, and this live camera looks over its funpark: the boxes, rails, kickers and jibs where freestyle skiers and snowboarders practise their tricks.

When it opened at the end of 2001, its main slope, 520 metres long and served by a six-seat chairlift, was for a while the longest indoor slope in the world. The heap it stands on is a monument of another kind: South Limburg was the coal country of the Netherlands until its mines closed in the 1960s and early 1970s, and the Wilhelminaberg is one of the man-made hills they left behind, known also for the longest staircase in the country.

Landgraaf keeps Central European Time, UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. The funpark is open all year, and the snow draws freestylers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, whose borders all lie within half an hour's drive.
