Game Day

A ground with a game on is a different building from the same ground on a Tuesday morning, and live sports webcams show both: ballparks, football grounds and athletics tracks, arenas and ice rinks, the courts of the racket sports, the plazas outside the big stadiums on match day, and the small-town fields where a Saturday league plays. The interest is the rhythm of a season. Baseball runs from spring training in February to the play-offs in October; ice rinks fill from October to March; football, in both senses, runs autumn to spring; and the courts and the tracks go all year, busiest at seven in the morning and after work. On game day the crowd arrives two hours before the first pitch or kick-off, and the cameras that face the stands are worth watching in that window. Times are local; the schedules are the clubs' own.
