Safarihoek looks out over a waterhole on Etosha Heights, a large private reserve on the southwestern boundary of Etosha National Park. The country here is dry thornveld and rocky ridge, and the water is the only reason anything gathers.
Namibia's game is desert-adapted and often solitary, so this is a patient watch rather than a busy one. Oryx and springbok are the regulars, kudu and eland come through, and elephant, rhino and lion are all present on the reserve. A black rhino at a floodlit Namibian waterhole at night is one of the better things a webcam can show you.
Namibia runs on UTC+2. The dry season, roughly June to October, is the whole point: by its end there is almost no water left in the landscape and everything alive comes past a pan like this one.
