Bent's Camp, Mamie Lake

About this view
Bent's Camp is a lodge and resort on Mamie Lake in Land O' Lakes, a town of fewer than a thousand people in Vilas County, on the Wisconsin side of the Michigan line, and its live cam looks over the water from the dock.
The camp dates from 1896, one of the oldest resorts in the Northwoods, and Mamie Lake belongs to the Cisco Chain, a string of lakes joined by channels that a boat can follow for hours. The lake gives the day its shape: fishing boats out early, kayaks and swimmers through the afternoon, loons calling across the water, and the pines going black against the sunset.
The Northwoods keep Central Time, UTC−6, UTC−5 in summer, which puts the evening light here around midnight in Europe. Summer is the season on the water, autumn brings the colour, and by January the lake is ice and the trails belong to snowmobiles, which cross the frozen chain as freely as the boats did.
