The International Wolf Center in Ely keeps a small ambassador pack in a large wooded enclosure, and teaches about wild wolves through them. This live webcam covers the north side of that enclosure: pines, rock, and a pack that behaves like a pack whether or not anyone is watching.
Wolves spend most of the day asleep, and the watching is about the rest of it: the greetings, the ranking sorted out over a bone, the sudden group departure to the far treeline. A howl usually starts with one animal and pulls in the others. Ravens hang around the edges throughout, because ravens always do.
Northern Minnesota runs on Central Time, UTC−6 and UTC−5 in summer. Best hours are early morning and early evening. Winter is the season here: the pack is at its most active in deep cold, and the Boundary Waters snow makes everything easier to see.
