Roy's Dam, Silvan Safari Lodge
Leopards, elephants and lions drinking at a lodge waterhole in the Sabi Sand, on a live webcam at Roy's Dam.
About this view
Roy's Dam is the waterhole in front of Silvan Safari Lodge, in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve on the western edge of the Kruger, and this live cam watches it around the clock.
The Sabi Sand has no fence along its border with the national park, so the animals move freely between the two, and a reliable water source in the dry season draws them all: elephant herds that wade in to drink and spray, lions at dusk, buffalo, giraffes splaying their front legs to reach the water, and the nervous comings and goings of impala and other antelope. The reserve is best known for its leopards, which here are used to vehicles and often seen by day, so a spotted shape at the water's edge is always worth a second look.
The reserve keeps South Africa Standard Time, UTC+2, all year. The dry winter, from May to September, is when the waterhole is busiest; after the first summer rains in November the animals scatter to the pans filling across the bush.
