Scottsville Main Street
A Kentucky county seat of 4,000, its historic square almost intact on a live webcam.
About this view
Scottsville is the seat of Allen County, Kentucky, population somewhere around 4,300, and this live webcam watches its main street. The town was laid out in 1816 and named for Charles Scott, the state's fourth governor; the square has been the centre of everything here ever since.
Its downtown historic district is remarkably complete: nearly every building in it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which is rare for a town this size. The other claim to fame is commercial: J. L. Turner and his son Cal opened the store here in 1945 that grew into Dollar General.
Central time, UTC−6. This is a slow watch by design: pickup trucks, courthouse business, the occasional parade. Autumn brings colour to the surrounding hills, and the square decorates heavily for Christmas.
