Balut and Siomai Stall, Agdao
A balut and siomai street stall in Agdao, Davao City, on a live webcam at the heart of Filipino street food.
About this view
This live cam watches a street food stall in Agdao, in Davao City, that sells two of the most common snacks in the Philippines: balut and siomai.
Balut is a fertilised duck egg, boiled and eaten warm from the shell with salt, vinegar or chilli, and it is a staple of the evening street trade across the country, sold from baskets and stalls as the day cools. Siomai are steamed dumplings of pork or shrimp, a Chinese dish long since made Filipino, served with soy sauce, calamansi and chilli oil. Customers stop for a few pesos' worth on their way home, eat standing up and move on, and the stall's rhythm follows the neighbourhood's: school hours, work shifts and the evening rush.
Davao keeps Philippine Time, UTC+8, with no daylight saving. The evening trade here, from late afternoon well into the night, falls in the European morning and early afternoon.
