"Vulcanizing shop" is what the Philippines calls a roadside tyre-repair stall, and this one serves the motorbikes and tricycles of Agdao. The name is no affectation: patching rubber with heat really is vulcanization, the process Charles Goodyear worked out in 1839.
The floor tells the story: bikes up on stands, inner tubes out, the crew hunting for the leak while the owner waits in the shade. Sidewalk traffic squeezes past constantly. This stretch of Agdao is never short of umbrellas and errands.
