About this view
Since 1938 the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and A1A has belonged to the Elbo Room, and this live camera looks straight down its patio to the busiest crossing on Fort Lauderdale Beach, where everyone who walks from the boulevard to the sand passes in front of the bar. The 1960 film Where the Boys Are made the corner the home of American spring break, and it has never quite given the title back.
The patio fills from late morning, the live music runs from 11 in the morning to 1 at night, and the crossing carries a parade all day: beach chairs and coolers going one way, sunburn and sandals coming back, convertibles and scooters on A1A, and the cruise-ship crowds in season. Rain clears the corner for about ten minutes.
Fort Lauderdale keeps Eastern Time, UTC−5, UTC−4 in summer. Late afternoon into the evening, a European night, is the busy stretch; November to April is the season, spring break fills March, and the boat show at the end of October brings the yachts to the Intracoastal a few blocks west.
