A live webcam on the deck of the Beach Bar at Cruz Bay, where St John's ferries land and most visits to the island begin. Roughly two-thirds of St John is national park, given to the nation by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956, which is why the hills behind the bar are green rather than built.
The frame holds the whole bar: stools, the sand and blue umbrellas beyond, boats on the water. Bands play through the evening, and the drink to watch for is the Painkiller: rum, pineapple, orange, coconut cream and a heavy grating of nutmeg.
