Cresswell Aurora Cam
Druridge Bay's northern horizon from a coastal village, a live webcam for aurora and noctilucent clouds.
About this view
Cresswell is a village at the southern tip of Druridge Bay, 7 miles (11 km) of open beach on the Northumberland coast of England, with a wildlife pond behind the dunes and a medieval pele tower in the middle. This live webcam points north over the bay.
The camera is a night-vision unit running 24/7, so the feed is a sky watch first: stars, satellites, meteors, and in the June and July twilight the silver ripples of noctilucent clouds, the highest clouds on Earth at some 80 km. The northern lights need a Kp of 6 or more to reach 55°N; then the aurora borealis stands right over the sea.
Aurora season is September to March, and the sea horizon gives this feed a clean low view the inland cameras lack. Clocks are UTC+0, UTC+1 in summer; the useful hours start around 10 pm.
