Sassolungo from Passo Sella
Sassolungo, the Langkofel, rising over Passo Sella, seen on a live webcam from Rifugio Salei in the Dolomites.
About this view
Rifugio Salei sits at 2,225 metres near Passo Sella, the road pass between Val Gardena and Val di Fassa, and this live cam looks from it at Sassolungo, the Langkofel in German, a massif of pale dolomite that tops out at 3,181 metres.
The mountain has three names in one valley: Sassolungo in Italian, Langkofel in German and Saslonch in Ladin, the language still spoken in Val Gardena and Val di Fassa. Passo Sella is one of the four passes of the Sella Ronda, the ski circuit around the Sella massif that good skiers complete in a day, and in summer the same slopes carry walkers and climbers to the foot of the rock.
The Dolomites keep Central European Time, UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer. The ski season runs from December to April; from June to September the pass road fills with cars, cyclists and motorbikes, and in the evening the massif catches the last red light of the day.
