Dyfi Osprey Nest
Above the Dyfi marshes, an osprey nest in 4K on a live webcam, a platform Wales waited centuries to fill.
About this view
An osprey nest on a pole above Cors Dyfi, a peat bog turned nature reserve in the valley behind Machynlleth. Ospreys had been gone from Wales as a breeding bird for centuries; this platform went up in hope, and birds have raised young on it since 2011.
The 4K camera sits level with the nest and takes in the whole valley behind it: the marshes, the hills, buzzards and red kites crossing the frame. A telemetry strip along the bottom carries the wind, the pressure and the state of the tide in the estuary below.
This nest cam follows the birds; Wales runs on GMT, an hour ahead in summer. This is a seasonal view, and worth knowing before you open it: the birds come back from West Africa at the end of March, eggs follow in April, the young fledge over the summer, and by late August the nest empties until spring.
