Statue of Liberty CrownCam
The view out of Liberty’s crown, across the harbour towards Manhattan.
About this view
This is the view from inside the crown of the Statue of Liberty, 93 metres above the harbour, looking out the way visitors do after climbing 354 steps to reach it. The statue was a gift from France, dedicated in 1886; Bartholdi sculpted the copper skin, and the iron framework holding it up came from Gustave Eiffel, three years before he started his tower.
The harbour does the moving. Ferries shuttle between Liberty Island, Ellis Island and Battery Park all day, container ships track towards Bayonne, and Lower Manhattan stands across the water — the same skyline that greeted arriving immigrants from this exact angle. Weather rolls through fast here, and the crown windows frame it.
New York runs on Eastern time. The light is best in the late afternoon, when the sun comes round behind Manhattan, and this 24/7 live cam keeps the view long after the last ferry has taken the crowds home. On the Fourth of July the harbour fills with boats — and the fireworks go up in front of it.
